Green Bean Casserole Recipe with a Twist

green bean casserole in a white casserole dish

A green bean casserole is a classic holiday tradition but we add a twist to this green bean casserole recipe that will make it a family favorite!

1 10.5 oz. can Cream of Mushroom Soup

½ cup regular whipping cream

½ cup sour cream

1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

5 14.5 oz. cans of green beans, drained

1 6-oz. container of crispy fried onion

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions for green bean casserole recipe:

Mix the first four ingredients in a greased 9” x 12” casserole dish. Then stir in green beans and ½ of crispy onions. Bake at 350 degrees F, then stir. While it is baking, add the nutmeg to the remaining crispy onions in the container, place top, and gently shake to disperse the nutmeg. Top casserole with remaining onion/nutmeg mix and return to oven and bake 5-8 minutes longer until onions are golden brown.

The “twist” is substituting regular cream and sour cream instead of milk. Also, the addition of nutmeg to crispy onion. The cream and sour cream make the sauce more creamy and the nutmeg gives a slightly nutty taste.
