How to Crochet This Beautiful Bobble Scarf

crochet periwinkle bobble scarf

In this post, you will learn how to crochet this beautiful bobble scarf. I will share the pattern and other tips for crocheting this bobble scarf. This crochet pattern is appropriate for intermediate crocheters.

I love to crochet. My mother taught me when I was a child and I am thankful to her for teaching me.

I enjoy creating something beautiful from a ball of yarn, especially when it has texture. Over the years, I have improved my skills. I also enjoy pushing myself to learn a new or more challenging pattern/design.

I adapted this scarf pattern from CraftingforWeeks.com website. Kelsie made a cowl neck scarf. I liked the textures and variation but wanted to make a scarf. Click here to see Kelsie’s blog post, which includes her pattern.

My scarf is approximately 5.5” wide and 75.5” long.

I used two skeins of Yarn Bee soft & sleek low-pill fiber. The color is periwinkle/485. I purchased the yarn at Hobby Lobby.

Use a 5.5 MM Hook

Pattern for Crochet Bobble Scarf:

1: With a size I (5.5mm) hook, ch 240.

2: Ch 1. Sc in the same ch st and in each ch st around (240).
3: Ch 3 (does not count as stitch). Sk next stitch. Work 1 dc in the following stitch. Work 1 dc in previous skipped stitch working over the previous dc. (Crossed DC). Repeat until the row is complete (240).
4: Ch 1. Hdc in the first stitch and each stitch around. (240)
5: Ch 1. Sc in the third loop of the first hdc in the previous row (Camel Stitch). Working in third loops, sc in each stitch around. (240)
6: Ch 1. Sc in the first stitch and each stitch around. (240)
7: Ch 1 and TURN. Working on the wrong side (WS), 1 sc in the last stitch of the previous row. Bobble stitch (BS) in the next stitch. Sc in the next 3 stitches. BS in the next stitch. Repeat and end the row with two sc in the last 2 stitches. (240)
8: Ch 1 and TURN. Resume working on the right side (RS), sc in first stitch and each stitch around. (240)
9: Ch 1. Hdc in first st and in each stitch around. (240)
10: Ch 1. Sc in the third loop of the first hdc in the previous row (Camel Stitch). Working in third loops, sc in each stitch around. You will do this on the backside of your work so the pattern shows on the front side. It is a little awkward and you might have to pull the middle loop over your hook with your finger. (240)

SECOND ROUND:

11: Ch 3 (does not count as stitch). Sk next stitch. Work 1 dc in the following stitch. Work 1 dc in previous skipped stitch working over the previous dc. (Crossed DC). Repeat until the row is complete (104).

12: Ch 1. Hdc in the first stitch and each stitch around. (240)
13: Ch 1. Sc in the third loop of the first hdc in the previous row (Camel Stitch). Working in third loops, sc in each stitch around. (240)
14: Ch 1. Sc in the first stitch and each stitch around. (240)

15: Ch 1 and TURN. Working on the wrong side (WS), 1 sc in the last stitch of the previous row. Bobble stitch (BS) in the next stitch. Sc in the next 3 stitches. BS in the next stitch. Repeat and end the row with two sc in the last 2 stitches. (240)

NOTE: I use these stitch markers to ensure I crochet the same number of stitches in each row. (I insert in my last stitch.)
16: Ch 1 and TURN. Resume working on the right side (RS), sc in first stitch and each stitch around. (240)
17: Ch 1. Hdc in first st and in each stitch around. (240)
18: Ch 1. Sc in the third loop of the first hdc in the previous row (Camel Stitch). Working in third loops, sc in each stitch around. (240)
19: Ch 3 (does not count as stitch). Sk next stitch. Work 1 dc in the following stitch. Work 1 dc in previous skipped stitch working over the previous dc. (Crossed DC). Repeat until the row is complete (240).

FINISHING Your Crochet Bobble Scarf:

20: Ch 1. Sc in the first stitch and in each stitch around. (240)

Tie off and use a tapestry needle to weave the end of the tread into the design to hide it.

I’m working your pattern but on row 10 the camel stitch row isn’t coming out on the right side.. should there have been another row before camel stitch row?

    • Suzanne on 03/02/2021 at 1:45 PM

      Hey Stephanie,

That is a great question! It has been over a year since I crocheted this scarf but I went back and crocheted a little swatch (just chained 10) to remind myself what to do on the 10th row. I remember now! When you do this camel stitch, you do it from the back. The previous row which is Hdc allows for a third stitch (camel toe) on either side. So do this from the backside so it will create the pattern on the front side. It is sort of awkward and you sometimes have to use your fingers to pull the middle loop over your hook. Here is a helpful video showing this from the backside. This row might take a little longer but I promise it works and makes the pattern more consistent looking in the end. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy Crocheting!

I am also having trouble with row 10 coming out on the wrong side. I have followed the instructions as written and no luck.

Ok never mind, I was struggling with row 5, bot row 10. But I figured it out thanks

        Janet,
So glad you figured it out. I hope you enjoy the scarf as much as I do.

Do you have a pattern for a beanie or fingerless gloves that go with this? I’d love to make a set.

    • Suzanne on 10/05/2021 at 3:14 PM

      Hey Rosalyn,
I am so sorry but I do not have a pattern for either of these. However, thanks to your comment, I might have to create one. This scarf pattern is my favorite of all the scarves I have crocheted.
      Thanks for visiting my blog.

I am working on this now. So pretty and I love the yarn that you recommend. Just curious aboutthe bobble stitch. You say to.bobble stitch and then do three single stitches after. When I look up how to bobble, part of the stitch is to sc right after. So does that mean I do three sc in a row or four? I ended up doing three but just curious.

Row 6 is unnecessary. If you do it the bobble row will be on the wrong side.

      Laura,
Thanks for making me aware. It has been a while since I made this but will look at my pattern and edit it if needed. Thanks!

I think rows 4 and 5 need to be switched. I can’t get the camel stitch on the right side otherwise. Let me know.

      • Laura on 03/29/2022 at 6:59 PM

Sorry, this pattern is driving me crazy, lol. I am still wrong. I’m sorry to keep bothering you. I’m gonna keep working it, and I will let you know. ?

          Laura,
I remember this being a challenge for me too but I was so happy with how it came out. Thanks for staying with it.
