Rustic Fall Table Centerpiece: Embracing the Colors of Autumn

fall tablescape with rusted tray, with candle, leaves and pumpkins

I just love fall — the cooler nights, carving pumpkins, drinking warm cider, smelling freshly baked apple pies, wearing cozy sweaters, and oh the brilliant colors as the foliage explodes with shades of red and orange! So I want to share this rustic fall table decor to inspire you to create a beautiful centerpiece that celebrates the colors of fall!

Background

Until this last year, I was a school administrator and thus never had time to decorate for fall. Now that I am retired and doing education consultant work, I have more time and enjoy decorating our home for different seasons.

A Connection with My Dad

My father passed away on July 27, 2017. I miss him, but know I will see him when I get to Heaven. Dad had several old cars and trucks. He loved to restore old vehicles. This container (oblong metal box in the photo above) is the toolbox (behind the driver’s seat) in one of three of trucks Dad had behind his barn. I believe the truck is from the 1940s.

When something old and rusty … is so beautiful!

I just love using something that is genuinely old and rustic. It also reminds me of my Dad.

Burlap, Fall Leaves, and a Candle . . . to create a rustic fall table centerpiece

I used a piece of burlap under the toolbox. Next, I purchased two sticks/sprays of fall leaves with some attached gourds and a few more faux gourds from Hobby Lobby. And now for the candle…I already had this brown candle (but later replaced it with a taller candle that was the same color).

Putting it all together to create this rustic fall table centerpiece

I simply placed each of the two sprays in the center of the “toolbox” with the base of each next to the candle and then let the top overflow from the ends of the toolbox. To make if a little fuller, I then gently placed the additional gourds on top of the leaves.

I think it turned out really nice. I see it each time I enter the front door as do guests. It is a beautiful reminder that autumn is here! It also reminds me of my sweet father. When I recreated this centerpiece this year, I added pinecones and hickory nuts found in our yard for a more rustic look.

Happy Fall!

And one final look . . .

I found a metal box at Hobby Lobby and going to try to replicate this for my dining room centerpiece.
